Welcome to The Middleton
Trust website.
The Trust
was set up in 1990 to promote the activity and performance
of sporting talent in young persons under 18 years, who
are resident in Ellon and District, and who would be unable
to develop their talent fully without such assistance.
The Trust is registered
a Scottish Charity - No. SC041932.
Alan C. Middleton
Alan’s contribution to sport in Ellon and District was immeasurable.
He was a participant, administrator, coach, and above all
an enthusiastic lover of all aspects of sporting life. He
had an exceptional rapport with everyone that he came into
contact with, or interacted with.
His own activities encompassed football, golf,
squash, cycling and marathon running, but his undoubted
favourites were badminton and cricket. In badminton he achieved
personal success at the highest level; he devoted incalculable
time and effort in administrating at club and district level
and his devotion and dedication to coaching developing junior
players was legendary. Alan enjoyed equal success on the
cricket field where he was by far Ellon’s most successful
captain in the Club’s 135 year history. His cricketing achievements
were as impressive as those on the badminton court. Perhaps
his greatest sporting moment was to captain Ellon’s Scottish
champion team in the Haig National Villages Tournament in
1973, a feat which he repeated in 1986 in the SCU Small
Clubs Cup Tournament.
Following his untimely death in 1989, the Alan
Middleton Trust was set up to honour his memory and to recognise
the contribution and commitment he made to sport in general.
The Trust assists in the development of sporting talent
among young people in the Ellon area, providing grants for
under-18's. To date some £20,000 has been disbursed to young
sportsmen and women in the following sports: rugby, athletics,
tennis, nordic skiing, horse riding, football, cycling,
hockey, swimming, diving, golf, squash, badminton,
gymnastics, volleyball and skating. If you feel you are
eligible for a grant, or you know of someone who fulfils the
criteria, please click here
for further information and an application form.
The Middleton Trust hopes to continue to build
a brighter future for young people through sport.
