& 3K
Races:
The Middleton Trust 10K Road Race
takes place round the streets of the historic
Aberdeenshire town of Ellon, the “Gateway to Buchan”. The
popular 3K Fun Run uses the initial part of the course round
Meiklemill.
When it’s happening
The 3K Fun Run and 10K Road Race
will take place
in September 2012.
Date TBA.
Entry Forms -
available in May 2012.
The Race Course
Starting at Gordon Park [behind the Victoria Hall, Station
Road], the route takes runners over the River Ythan and
round the Meiklemill Estate. This constitutes the first 3K
of the course and is used by the Fun Runners earlier in the
day. Recrossing the river, runners follow the Modley Burn up
to Station Road [B9005] and then head west, eventually
circumnavigating the Esslemont estate. Exiting Esslemont,
and having dealt with the odd gradient, runners cross the
B9005 [with extreme care!] and head east into the streets of
Auchterellon which includes the steepest parts of the
course. Leaving Auchterellon, runners head south on the
Formartine and Buchan Way, recrossing Station Road [with
extreme care!] and then heading back over the Ythan to
Meilklemill via the old railway bridge. With the finish line
less than 2 kilometers away, runners head east down Barratt
Drive and, crossing the Ythan for the last time sprint back
to Gordon Park.
